Description
An icon of Midcentury Modern design that plays with depth and light. This sculptural ashtray (which can also be used as a coin tray or paperweight) is crafted using the celebrated Venetian "Sommerso" technique, which became extremely popular between the 1950s and 1970s.
The technique involves immersing layers of colored glass one inside the other: here we see a deep red heart wrapped in an amber yellow layer, all encapsulated in a final block of transparent crystal . The result is an object with a rigorous geometric shape (cubic or square) that, however, deceives the eye, making the colors appear suspended in nothingness without blending.
Solid and heavy, it is a piece with a great decorative impact, capable of capturing the light and changing appearance depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

A quick note: We do our best to display colors accurately, but the exact shade you see will depend on your screen and camera.
